Debbie Maddy: Discover the Art of Shibori and Indigo Dye
Please join us June 18th-21st, 2025 to learn from Debbie Maddy the art of shibori and indigo dye. We are very fortunate to have her teaching at ArtHaus!
The class will cover indigo dye from making an all-natural vat to dyeing our creations. Debbie will cover all three types of shibori including fold and clamp (itajime), wrapping on a pole (arashi), and stitch resist. She ends the workshop with teaching how to finish the fabrics to help keep the indigo from rubbing off (crocking) and hopefully make it more light and wash-resistant. The class is perfect for beginners to advanced dyers (mature 16& up).
Cost is $690 for 3.5 full days (9am-4pm)
Lunch, refreshments and light snacks will provided.
A kit fee of $40 will be collected on the morning of the first day. This is a shared usage fee which covers the cost of the all natural indigo vats and the use of all items to do the shibori including one silk scarf.
Class hours are 1-4:30pm the 18th and 9-4:30pm the 19,20,21st.
Debbie has studied Shibori and Indigo dyeing under some of the most prestigious artists in the US, Japan, England, and Africa. She is the author of Discover Shibori, an in-depth volume about everything shibori and natural indigo. She loves traveling to teach and lecture. She dyes and sells items to wear and decorate with and is thrilled and honored to be a part of the Moda Fabrics designer family.
